Next Topic No.2 ('COLLECTION OF FAMILY PIECES BY THE NIIBORI METHOD')

As Dr. Niibori wrote in his New Year's greetings in the '98 New Year's issue of Monthly Harmony, this fund's purposes are; 1) to foster the development of conductors and leaders of guitar orchestras who can promote world peace through music, 2) to help form guitar orchestras in various places that anyone can join, 3) to communicate with people all over the world through music.

Anyone who supports these purposes can become a member of INCEF by a donation or by payment of the membership fee.

Its activity plan is; 1) to have seminars, contests, and concours to find people with the potential to become good conductors, 2) To provide a subsidy, materials for study, and special lessons to prizewinners and deserving hard workers.

As a first effort, it will hold a 'Conducting Seminar & Contest' inKawasaki Niibori Studio on May 3, 1998.

During the seminar, a beginner course and a master course will be provided. The Content of the beginner course is: 1) About tact (length, shape, the center of gravity, basic form), 2) Basic training, 3) The easy way of learning, 4) The relationship of the breathing method, balance and music, and about breathing 'before the point', 5) How to make the best tact, and so on. Contents of the master course are Special Open Lessons by Dr. Niibori.

In the Contest, entrants will be required to conduct the Niibori Guitar Orchestra. The Prizewinner will win a prize of 2 hundred thousand yen, the latest guitar orchestra scores, text books, video tapes, music CDs, and material for study and special lesson tickets.

In the program, the music that got the highest scores in popularity on the questionnaire were 'Geschichte aus dem Wiener Wald' conducted by Dr. Niibori, 'Amazing Grace' by a soprano singer and Niibori Guitar Ensemble,'Concerto for Flute & Harp in F-major' by a flutist and Niibori Guitar Orchestra, lantern guitar duet 'Silent Night', and 'It's a small world' by Niibori Guitar Orchestra B-Group.

At the end of the program, the Niibori Guitar Orchestra played 'Silent Night' while the audience sang to the music. Then Dr. Niibori expressed his gratitude for the 40th anniversary of Niibori Guitar, and talked about his dreams for the future.

The audience was moved to tears, and letters about the tour are still coming in to us.

The audience's donation and a part of the profits have been donated to the Red Cross in Japan on January 6, 1998.

Prime guitar trio. if a recorder, a contrabass guitar, and a guitarron are added, the music will be more pleasant.

2. 'Liebestraume' (Liszt, arr. the Niibori Guitar Ensemble)

A Prime guitar duet + Guitarron is the ideal combination.

3. 'Etude No.3' (D. Aguado, arr. H. Niibori) & 'Etude No.4' (N. Coste, arr. H. Niibori)

Prime guitar trio consisting of a beginner, an intermediate level player and an advanced level player. More players will add more fun.

4. 'Haru yo Koi' in Baroque Style (R. Hirota, arr. H. Niibori)

A(alto)1, A2, P(prime), B(bass), C.B.(contrabass), Gr.(guitarron), A.Cem.(alto cembalo) are the ideal instruments. At least 6 players are needed. A performance using a large-scaled ensemble is very effective . Easy baroque style music.

5. 'Edelweiss' (R. Rodgers, arr. H. Niibori)

Chorus, A1, A2, P., C.B., Gr. + Keyboard Harmonica or Accordion are the ideal instruments. At least 12 players are needed. A performance using about 20 players is most effective. Enjoyable music by chorus and a guitar ensemble.

6. 'Annen Polka' (J. Strauss, arr. H. Niibori)

A1, A2, P., B., C.B., Gr., + Snare drum and Cymbals are the ideal instruments. At least, 7 players are needed. Performance by a large-scaled ensemble is also effective. Enjoyable music by percussion and a guitar ensemble.

7. 'Mountains in Autumn' (U. Watanabe, arr. H. Niibori)

A1, A2, P., B., C.B., Gr. are the ideal instruments. At least 6 players are needed. Performance by a large-scaled ensemble is also effective. A study with a calm and beautiful sound, and cheerful 'Knock the body (NRM).

8. 'El Bimbo' (C. Morgan, arr. M. Adachi & the Niibori Guitar Ensemble)

A1, A2, P., B., C.B., Gr., A.Cem1, A.Cem2 are the ideal instruments. At least 9 players are needed. Performance by a large-scaled ensemble is effective. Performance by about 20 players is ideal. Modern music that uses the cembalo guitars.

9. 'Polka' (Tyrolean Folk Song, arr. H. Niibori)

Chorus1, Chorus2, A1, A2, P., B., C.B., Gr., Portuguese guitar, Prime Cembalo guitar, Keyboard Harmonica, Horn or Synthesizer, Clarinet, Whistle (for the imitation sound of birds' twittering) are the ideal instruments. At least, 10 players are needed. Performance by a middle-scaled ensemble is effective. Enjoy Tyrolean sound with chorus, wind instruments, keyboard instruments, and imitation sounds. Very dramatic and pleasant music.
