Guide to "Niibori Guitar Philharmonic Orchestra (N-Orch.)" Public
Performance 2008
Kiyomi Niibori (a member of NE & Ladies' Quartet, Master of Arts in Music)
N-Orch. won all standing ovation for both of public performances in Europe, Munich
& Vienna, commemorating the 50th anniversary, in last year. It seemed to give
a shock and pleasure for world's persons concerning to guitar that N-Orch. = Guitar
Orchestra made debut and succeeded, especially, at Golden Hall of Gesellschaft
der Musikfreunde in Wien, sanctuary of classical music. Of course it was a great
pleasure for us.
Here, the main concert of N-Orch. going to be held in this September is introduced
below.
You will be able to enjoy both of the latest N-Method (new challenge with guitar
orchestra) and traditional sound = memory and surprise. It will be highly valuable
for instructors of guitar ensembles and peoples related to guitar business, and
audience gathering from domestic and sometimes overseas to the concert. Now, what
are memory and surprise for this year-----?
First, Dr. Hiroki Niibori, the originator and foster parent of N-Orch., main conductor,
said as "second coming of Carlos Kleiber!" at the last year's public
performance in Europe, will conduct the pieces of work of Johann Strauss the 2nd
(1825 - 1899).
One of them is operetta "Waldmeister, Overture". This piece of music
was drastically arranged with idea of Dr. Niibori! Fragments of melody in main
part appear frequently in "overture" of opera. Of course, it is the
same for "Waldmeister, Overture". Dr. Niibori arranged this piece of
music incorporating "indigenous to N-Orch. or fragments of charms of public
performance of N-Orch." into this piece of music. What are they----?
Various performers and groups will appear on stage of N-Orch. = public performance
of N-Orch.
They are ensemble by top players = NE (Niibori Guitar Ensemble), outstandingly
sharp men's sextet = DANROKU, beautiful sound of fully romantic JOYON = Niibori
Guitar Ladies' Quartet, gorgeous sound with steel string guitars of each sound
range = Cembalo Guitar Ensemble, NRM (Niibori Rhythm Method) utilizing guitars
as excellent drums (percussion instruments), N-Method Guitars such as Guitarron
(put up to play) and contrabass guitar etc.
Fragments of these elements will appear next by next in this piece of music. The
members of these groups are actually members of N-Orch. and it can be said to
be possible for them to perform as a member of N-Orch. or sometimes play as a
member of small group to show peculiar taste.
They are drinking in Germany putting syrup of "Asperula" (Waldmeister)
into wine and beer. They say that Johann Strauss once drunk wine with syrup of
Asperula to have chance to compose this piece of music.
It is not sure that this kind of wine was relating, but Dr. Niibori, when he drunk
wine in the past, he imagined as to recall fragments of wonderful dream to arrange
this piece of music.
It became an exclusive arrangement and Dr. Niibori named the piece as "Waldmeister
Fantasy". Please look forward.
Another one is Polka "Ohne Sorgen". Strauss family is good at making
members of orchestra to play chorus, imitation sound, tricks, as in "Egyptischer
Marsch", "Feuerfest", "Polka, Auf der Jagd", and members
of orchestra suddenly laugh in big voice in this piece to blow off "distress"
= sorrow, worries! Having depressed feeling, do not miss to hear this!
This is also a special item for this public performance of this time! This year
is "the 150th year since establishing diplomatic relation between France
and Japan" and, commemorating this for this time, invited splendid guest,
French performer, Mr. Arnaud Dumond.
Mr. A. Dumond is a French composer and guitarist. He plays an important part at
world's guitar festivals and well known among Europeans. NE acquainted with him
at guitar festival in Singapore and became possible to introduce this splendid
guitarist in Japan. This time, he will play "Tango en Skai", masterpiece
of French composer = Mr. R. Dyens, with N-Orch. and premiere performance of work
piece of Mr. A. Dumond is also scheduled. How the piece will sound, we are looking
forward.
"Waldmeister, Overture" and "Ohne Sorgen'', introduced above, are
premiere performance by N-Orch. and there are more pieces to be premiere performed.
First, opening will be masterpiece of Mozart! It is Opera "The Marriage of
Figaro, Overture". Conductor will be Mr. Kazuyuki Terada, in the limelight
at many public performances in overseas. Especially for this time, all of each
first half of part 1 and part 2 will be conducted by Mr. Kazuyuki Terada, as recommended
by Dr. Niibori. This is the second time, if my memory was right, since Mr. Kiyoshi
Koyama in history of N-Orch.! In some meaning, this will be said as the 2nd debut
as the conductor of N-Orch. for Mr. Terada. This piece of music arranged by him
will be performed as the start of this memorial concert, and it will be said as
a best match.
Pieces of music, premiere performed and percussions play important part, will
be each 1 for Japanese and Western styled music. Work piece of Mr. Kengo Momose,
showing high popularity in enquete for audience in every year, "Fantasy of
the earth" will be performed. This piece of music will be unique one to show
harmonize of guitar orchestra with court music of Japan = world of elegance, and
suddenly changing to a mood like tap dancing with GETA (Japanese wooden footwear)
like one scene of movie "Zatou-ichi" supervised by Mr. Takeshi Kitano.
Guitar drum (NRM) and Japanese drum will play important part in this piece.
For Western styled one, although this is a work piece by Japanese, is "The
Song of Life ~ Jounetsu Tairiku". "Song of Life" (composed by Mr.
Yuji Toriyama) is the theme music of "The World Heritage", popular long
lived TV program of TBS, and "Jounetsu Tairiku" is a hit number of Mr.
Taro Hakase, violinist and composer. Both of pieces of music are well known among
Japanese youngsters. These are arranged by Mr. Kazuyuki Terada. 2 electric guitars
(Messrs Masahiro Suzuki and Hiroki Kurihara) and twin drums (Messrs Kousei Kato
and Hiromitsu Hagiwara) will play important part in these pieces of music! Joyful
to see and you will feel like standing up to dance with exciting rhythm.
On the other hand, pieces of classical music will be also purely and refreshingly
performed.
Cembalo guitar ensemble will perform piece of music by Mozart, for the first time,
not Bach, for this year. It will be "Variations on Twinkle Twinkle Little
Star", original naming is "12 Variations on Ah! Vous dirai-je Maman,
K.265". French love song, popular in later half of 1700s in Europe, was put
as a motif of variations, and it contains many worth seeing techniques giving
charms of variations appearing next by next.
NE (Niibori Guitar Ensemble) will perform traditional repertoire "The 2nd
Movement from Divertissement K.137". You will be able to enjoy magnificent
technique of Alto Guitar and refreshing sound of Guitar Ensemble.
Another one, "Concert for 2 Flutes and thoroughbass in C-major" (composed
by Vivaldi, arranged by Hiroki Niibori) will be performed. 2 marvelous flutists
and thoroughbass = bass guitar, cembalo guitar players made possible to perform
this piece. You will be able to enjoy beautiful sound of 2nd movement played only
by flutes and thoroughbass. Flutists are Mss. Yuko Koshibe and Miki Yamamoto,
costarred last year for Doppler's piece. They will give wonderful solo in tune
with each other.
For other ensembles, DANROKU and JOYON will also appear on stage. Please don't
worry!
Please look forward for encore, just the same as NE public performance. It will
depend upon hand claps of audience.
